Buck Wild

Supported by the Moosehead Award (2022)

Scout Boxall’s always been built differently. Following an absolutely dynamite debut at Melbourne International Comedy Festival last year, best newcomer nominee Scout is bringing their trademark manic energy back to the festival with their latest offering Buck Wild.

Buck Wild blends stand up, sketch, storytelling and original songs to invite the audience to experience the exhilarating highs and devastating lows of bipolar, which Scout was diagnosed with at 18. This daring show deftly treads the boundary between theatre and comedy, underscored with an immersive original soundtrack of electro pop. It’s cerebral chaos that veers between the poetic, the absurd and the darkly funny. It’s what you’d get if Maria Bamford and Sarah Kendall had a love child.

Buck Wild was directed by festival favourite Michelle Brasier, whose critically acclaimed solo show Average Bear won Directors Choice at the Sydney Comedy Festival, and Scout is the recipient of the Moosehead Award.

Reviews for Buck Wild

“With only themselves, a microphone and a PowerPoint presentation they made the audience laugh and cry in an endless loop for 50 minutes straight” - Theatre Thoughts, ★★★★★

“As hilarious as ever… Boxall reaches moments of truth and beauty. I worried it was about to tip over into cliche, cringe, or hack. But they kept it in the safe zone – staying away from romanticising mental illness, which poetic language often leads to” - Funny Tonne, ★★★★★

"Buck Wild is a stunningly assured move into autobiographical stand-up, a wickedly funny, affecting and illuminating look at living with bipolar disorder. Writing about last year’s debut, I predicted Boxall had a great show in them. I just didn’t expect it so soon… To watch this show is to see a thrilling talent developing at warp speed" - The Saturday Paper

“A mullet so decadent they could probably be drafted by the Western Bulldogs… a must see” - The Age

“Scout is just so effortlessly relaxed while hitting every note (sometimes literally) with sheer perfection” - Scenestr
